## Key takeaways

- On LinkedIn, the Date posted filter goes down to the past 24 hours. The URL parameter f_TPR=r3600 narrows it to the last hour; it is not documented and can change.
- On Indeed, the Date posted filter's narrowest window is the last 24 hours, and Google's jobs box doesn't go below a few days.
- A job board's date is the time the listing reached the board. In HiringNow's study of LinkedIn jobs dated within the past hour, 48% had been posted by the employer more than a day earlier.
- The employer's own careers page carries the real posting time. HiringNow's jobs posted today pages read those pages directly and group the newest jobs under 'In the last hour'.

The job boards' own filters stop at 24 hours. LinkedIn's address bar can be edited down to an hour, Indeed's cannot, and Google's jobs box doesn't go below a few days. All three date a job from when it reached the board, not from when the employer posted it, so even a "last hour" list is partly old jobs. Here is how each one works, and how to see the jobs that really went up in the last hour.

## Why the first hours are worth the trouble

Applying early matters because the employer's inbox is still short. It also matters because of how long jobs stay open: in [HiringNow's study of 68,610 open postings](/research/how-old-are-job-postings), the median job had been open for 54 days, and only 10% had been posted in the past week. A list sorted by "newest" on a big board is mostly the same jobs you saw last week, re-dated.

## LinkedIn: the 24-hour filter, and the one-hour URL trick

Search for a job, open **All filters**, and under **Date posted** pick **Past 24 hours**. LinkedIn's help page lists the options as any time, the last 24 hours, the past week and the past month ([LinkedIn Help](https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/154)); there is no shorter one in the menu.

The address bar can go shorter. After you apply the 24-hour filter, the URL contains `f_TPR=r86400`: the window in seconds. Change it to `f_TPR=r3600` and reload, and the list shows jobs LinkedIn dated within the last hour. `r7200` is two hours, `r14400` four.

> [!NOTE]
> LinkedIn doesn't document `f_TPR`. It has worked for years, but it can change or stop without notice, and the time it filters on is LinkedIn's listing time, not the employer's posting time (more on that below).

Two more settings help: sort by **Most recent** instead of **Most relevant**, so the newest listing is at the top, and save the search as a job alert so LinkedIn sends new matches without you reloading.

## Indeed: 24 hours is the floor

Run a search and use the **Date posted** filter in the results ([Indeed Help Center](https://www.indeed.com/help/job-seekers/articles/204488950-improving-your-job-searches-tips-and-help)). The tightest choice is the last 24 hours; the others are the last 3, 7 and 14 days. Indeed's URL carries the window as `fromage=1` (days), and it has no value for an hour, so sorting by **Date** inside the 24-hour window is as close as Indeed gets.

## Google: the jobs box

Searching for a job title on Google opens a jobs panel; click **Jobs** in the blue box to see the full list, then use the filters above the results ([Google Search Help](https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/7498276)). Google's help page doesn't list the filter options. In practice the Date posted filter's narrowest window is a few days, not a day, and Google's dates come from the boards and career sites it indexes, so they inherit those sites' delays.

## The catch: the board's date is not the employer's date

Every filter above works on the time the listing appeared on that board. That is not when the employer posted the job. In [HiringNow's study of LinkedIn listings dated within the past hour](/research/linkedin-new-jobs-study), each traced through its apply link to the employer's own posting:

- 48% had been first posted by the employer more than a day earlier, and 29% more than a week earlier.
- A genuinely new job took a median of 4.1 hours to reach LinkedIn; 87% arrived within six hours.
- 73% of the listings for jobs more than a day old carried no "Reposted" label.

So a "last hour" list on a board is roughly half new jobs and half re-dated ones, and even the new ones are a few hours behind the employer's page. The 24-hour list is better than the default and still mixes the two.

## Where the real posting time lives

The employer's own careers page runs on an applicant tracking system (Greenhouse, Workday, Lever, Ashby, SmartRecruiters and dozens more), and most of those publish the date the job was created. That is the time to filter on, and it is readable in two ways.

**One job at a time.** Paste a job's link into the free [job posting date checker](/tools/when-was-this-job-posted) and it reads the posting date from the employer's hiring system, along with whether the job is still open.

**All of them at once.** HiringNow checks employers' career pages every five minutes and lists what went up on [jobs posted today](/jobs/posted-today), with the employer's own posting time on each job, the newest grouped under **In the last hour**, a **Last 6 hours** quick filter, and live counts for the last hour, 6 hours, 24 hours and 7 days. The same list is cut by field and place: [software engineer](/jobs/software-engineer), [data analyst](/jobs/data-analyst), [nursing](/jobs/nurse), [sales](/jobs/sales), [customer service](/jobs/customer-service) and [entry-level](/jobs/entry-level) jobs, [remote US jobs](/jobs/remote-us), and jobs in [the UK](/jobs/united-kingdom), [Canada](/jobs/canada) and [Australia](/jobs/australia). Each job says "Posted" with the employer's timestamp, or "Found" with the time HiringNow first saw it when the hiring system publishes no time, so you always know which kind of date you are looking at.

## A routine that catches jobs early

1. Once a day, run the 24-hour filter on the boards you use, sorted newest first; on LinkedIn, use `f_TPR=r3600` for a midday check.
2. For any job you like, check its real posting date before you spend an hour on the application. A job "posted today" that has been open for six weeks is a different bet.
3. Watch the source. The [jobs posted today](/jobs/posted-today) page, or a HiringNow account that matches new postings to your profile within minutes of them going up, reaches the employer's page before the boards do.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can you filter LinkedIn jobs by the last hour?

Not from the filter menu, which stops at the past 24 hours. Searching, then changing f_TPR=r86400 in the address bar to f_TPR=r3600 (seconds), shows jobs LinkedIn dated within the last hour. LinkedIn doesn't document the parameter, so it can stop working without notice.

### Does Indeed have a last-hour filter?

No. Indeed's Date posted filter narrows to the last 24 hours at the tightest. Sorting by date puts the newest listings first within whatever window you chose, which is the closest you can get.

### Why does a job say 'posted today' when it has been open for weeks?

Because the date is the board's, not the employer's. Boards date a listing from when it arrived or was last refreshed, and a reposted job gets a new date. In HiringNow's study, 73% of LinkedIn listings for jobs more than a day old carried no 'Reposted' label.

### Where can I see jobs the moment they are posted?

On the employer's own careers page, or on a service that reads those pages. HiringNow checks employers' pages every five minutes and lists what went up in the last hour, 6 hours and 24 hours at hiringnow.ai/jobs/posted-today, with the employer's own posting time on each job.
