Free AI resume builder

A free resume builder that makes a resume ATS systems read and recruiters can scan: one column, real text, standard headings. The AI writes your bullet points from your notes and invents nothing. Download it as PDF or Word.

Loading the builder

What this resume builder does differently.

Most builders sell templates. This one makes ATS tested resumes well, and writes from your experiences and skills.

  • One column to start

The builder starts you on a single column with standard headings, the layout every hiring system's parser reads in order. When you want a designed look, there are 15 templates, and the one-column ones are marked ATS-friendly.

  • Real text in the PDF

The PDF comes from your browser's own print dialog, so the text in it is text, not a picture of text. You can select it, an ATS parser can read it, and a recruiter's search can find it.

  • The AI writes from your facts

The AI writer is told to use only what you gave it. Where a result needs a number you didn't supply, it leaves a bracketed blank for you to fill. In a Robert Half survey of more than 2,000 US hiring managers, 65% said the flood of AI-written applications has made skills harder to verify, and the report names fabricated and embellished work history as the reason. A resume you can stand behind in the interview is the point we strive for.

  • Your resume stays with you

It is kept in your browser's storage, and it is never sent to us. The only thing that leaves your browser is the notes you choose to send for writing help, which aren't kept. To create multiple versions, signup and organize your resumes.

  • Sections in the order you want

Lead with skills for a career change, or with education straight out of school. Move any section up or down and the page follows, with your contact details staying at the top.

  • The right shape for the country

Pick where it is going and the builder sets the paper size, the document's name, the headings and the notes on what to leave off. A US resume and a UK CV are different documents, and the page says how.

How the AI resume builder works.

  1. 1

    Start from what you have

Upload your current resume and the builder sorts it into the form, or start blank, or look at the sample first. Nothing is uploaded; the file is read in your browser.

  2. 2

Fill in the form, watch the page

Contact details, a summary, jobs with bullet points, education, skills, and any extra sections. The page on the right shows the live preview as you type.

  3. 3

Let the AI help draft the hard lines

Give it rough notes about a job and it writes three to five bullet points from them, in your facts only. A number you didn't give becomes a blank, not a guess.

  4. 4

    Check it, then download it

The same 42 checks as our ATS resume checker run on the page you built. Then download it as a PDF with real text in it, or as a Word file.

An ATS-friendly resume a parser reads top to bottom.

Three templates, classic, modern and compact, that differ in type and spacing only, because the one-column layout is the part a parser needs. This is the sample resume in the classic template on US Letter paper.

A resume in the US, a CV in the UK: what changes by country.

The builder sets these for you automatically when you pick a country. They are conventions, not rules, and employers are used to small departures; what they notice is a photo or a date of birth where none is expected.

Resume conventions by country
CountryCalledPaperPhotoDates writtenWhat to know
United StatesResumeLetterNoMonth D, YYYY or MM/YYYY
  • One page early in a career, two with more experience.
  • No photo, date of birth, marital status or nationality.
  • City and state are enough; leave the street address off. References go on a separate sheet, when asked.
CanadaResumeLetterNo. Job Bank says it can lower your chancesMonth D, YYYY
  • Same shape as a US resume, and the Government of Canada's Job Bank says to keep it to two pages.
  • No photo (Job Bank: it is not the norm and can lower your chances), no age or marital status, and never your social insurance number.
  • References only when an employer asks. Canadian spelling (colour, centre) is usual; for employers in Quebec a French version is the safe choice.
United KingdomCVA4NoD Month YYYY or DD/MM/YYYY
  • Called a CV. Two pages of A4 is the norm.
  • The National Careers Service says not to include your age, date of birth, marital status or nationality. No photo either.
  • A few lines of profile under your name and contact details. Don't put a referee's contact details on the CV; "references available on request" is enough.
Europe (EU)CVA4Varies: customary in Germany, Spain and France, left off in Ireland and the NetherlandsDD/MM/YYYY or DD.MM.YYYY
  • A4 paper, usually two pages. An English CV in Europe follows the UK shape; Ireland's conventions match the UK's.
  • A photo is still customary in Germany, Spain and France, though no employer can require one, and it is left off in Ireland and the Netherlands. This builder doesn't add one; a German Lebenslauf is also usually dated and signed, with no gaps in the dates.
  • A languages section with levels (B2, C1) is expected. Date of birth and nationality still appear on some European CVs; include them only if the employer asks.
AustraliaResumeA4NoD Month YYYY
  • "Resume" and "CV" are both used. A4 paper; two to three pages is normal, one if you are starting out.
  • No photo or date of birth. State your work rights (citizen, permanent resident, visa) if you aren't a citizen.
  • Two or three referees are often named at the end, or given as "available on request".

AI resume builder FAQ.

Is HiringNow's AI resume builder free?

Yes, HiringNow's AI resume builder is free: building the resume, the 42 ATS checks and five goes of AI writing help, with no card. A free HiringNow account adds unlimited AI writing, AI chat editing and tailoring the resume to each job you apply for.

Are HiringNow's resumes ATS-friendly?

Yes, HiringNow's builder starts every resume on an ATS-friendly layout: one column, standard section headings, real text and no tables, text boxes or icon fonts, which are what parsers misread. In the template library, the templates that keep to those rules are marked ATS-friendly. You can run the same 42 checks as HiringNow's ATS resume checker on the page you built. No builder can promise what a particular employer's system will do with a file.

What does the AI actually write?

Bullet points for a job, and the summary, from notes you type. It is instructed to use only the facts you give it: no invented employers, tools, numbers or outcomes. If a line needs a figure you didn't supply, it writes a bracketed blank for you to fill in. Everything it writes is a draft you can edit or discard.

Can ChatGPT build a resume?

Yes, ChatGPT and Claude can build a resume, and for a general-purpose resume they do it well, down to a PDF with selectable text. HiringNow is built for one job: its AI writes from instructions made for resumes, uses only facts you give it, follows the conventions of the country you're applying in, and checks the result against what hiring systems read. And through HiringNow's MCP server, ChatGPT or Claude can build and edit your HiringNow resume directly.

Do employers check whether a resume was written by AI?

Some look for the signs. In Robert Half's March 2026 survey of more than 2,000 US hiring managers, 67% of HR leaders said reviewing AI-generated applications has slowed hiring and 65% said skills have become harder to verify, with fabricated or embellished work history named as the problem. What gets a resume rejected is not that software helped write it; it is text that doesn't survive the interview. Write from your facts and the question doesn't arise.

Can I tailor my resume to a job description?

Yes. Paste the posting into the job description box. The writing help then uses the posting's wording for things you have actually done, and the check lists the skills the posting names and tells you which are on your resume and which aren't. Add the missing ones that are true of you. HiringNow's agent does the tailoring for every job once you sign in.

Can I start from my existing resume?

Yes. Upload the PDF or Word file and the builder reads it in your browser and sorts it into the form: contact details, summary, jobs with their dates and bullets, education, skills. It is a starting point, so check every field; it is right often enough to save retyping and wrong often enough to need a read. For a LinkedIn profile, use LinkedIn's own "Save to PDF" on your profile page and upload that file.

Should I download a PDF or a Word file?

Either, and both are offered. Every major hiring system accepts both. The PDF keeps the layout fixed; the Word file is easier to edit later and is what some application forms ask for. HiringNow's PDF contains real text, which is what matters to a parser.

Does HiringNow's resume builder work for a UK CV or an Australian resume?

Yes. Choose the country and the builder switches between US Letter and A4 paper, calls the document a CV where that is the word, uses "Profile" and "Referees" where those are the headings, and shows the conventions for that country: how long it should be, what to leave off, and what employers there expect to see.

Where is my resume stored?

In your own browser's storage, on your device, so it is there when you come back on the same browser. It is never sent to our server. Clear your browser data and it is gone, so download a copy when you are done.

Can I change my resume template?

Yes. HiringNow has 15 resume templates, from plain one-column layouts to two-column designs, and your details carry over when you switch. For online applications, choose a template marked ATS-friendly; two-column designs read well to a person but can come out scrambled when a hiring system's parser reads them.

Can I change the order of the sections on my resume?

Yes, HiringNow's resume builder lets you move any section up or down: lead with Skills for a career change, or with Education straight out of school. Your contact details stay at the top, and the page redraws in the new order. In the full editor you drag sections into place, including between the columns of a two-column template.

Can I edit my resume by chatting with AI?

Yes. HiringNow's AI chat edits your resume from plain instructions, such as "tailor this to the job I pasted" or "move Skills above Experience". It can rewrite sections, tailor to a job description or a screenshot of one, reorder and rename sections, change the template, font and spacing, and run the ATS check and fix what it finds. Every change can be undone.

Can I build my resume in ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes, with HiringNow's MCP server. Add HiringNow as a connector in ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Cursor or VS Code, sign in, and ask in plain words: create a resume, tailor one to a job, rewrite a section, reorder sections, change the template or export a PDF. Tailoring always makes a new copy, so your original stays as it was.

How is HiringNow different from Zety, Resume.io or Canva?

Three ways. HiringNow's AI writes from your facts and leaves blanks for what it doesn't know, instead of filling the page with plausible text. The ATS checks and the job description match are built into the editor, so you see what a hiring system reads before you send it. And you can edit by chatting with AI, or from ChatGPT and Claude through HiringNow's MCP server.
